miracle | vietrio (2008)

miracle is the debut studio album from srinarongs, under the new name “vietrio” (vie-trio, vie as in french word meaning life… i have no idea who design the logo, it looks like viet-rio to me.) and if you can recall, i just previously reviewed their mini-album titled “รุ้งทอแสง” yep, they’re back with their first full-length album.

unexpectedly, this album does not contain ordinary classical tunes like their mini-album. instead it is full of classical crossover music which is surprisingly entertaining to listen. their first track called “miracle” inspired by “the string quartet no. 14 in c-sharp minor, opus 131″ by ludwig van beethoven came with a beautiful video. followed by the second track “รักนี้ที่รอคอย” which is inspired by a passionate tune “un bel di vedremo” from giacomo puccini’s famous opera, madame butterfly.

the third track “immortal” is very interesting. the new arrangement is composed of two famous pieces, “carl orff’s camina burana” and “johann sebastian bach’s toccata and fugue in d minor, bwv 565″ featuring nod (retrospect). this song gives a touch of classical rock. if you like finnish cello rock band, apocalyptica, you are going to enjoy this track very much. you can listen to “immortal” sampler with the player below.

the fourth track “เพลงแทนใจ” is inspired by the famous ballet “swan lake” of Пётр Ильич Чайковский (pyotr il’yich tchaikovsky) featuring the voice of “r” (the star). this track is quite interesting, although i don’t prefer the vocal much. the next track is called “young blood” featuring the rap vocal of “guy” (g-junior) which is another arrangement of “canon and gigue in d major for three violins and basso continuo.” i believe most people know this tune as “canon in d” from a korean film, my sassy girl. this piece is considerably the most famous piece from johann pachelbel. you can listen to the sampler with audio player above.

the sixth track “ใบไม้” is a very beautiful and touching song written by thaweewet srinarong. the seventh track is “soul of siam,” a good combination of thai traditional instruments and classical music. the eighth track “ผู้ชายในสายฝน,” a ballad tune featuring the voice of “ruj” the star, the string is very nice, the vocal is just okay.

the ninth track “wedding,” inspired by richard wagner’s bridal chorus from opera “lohengrin” the new arrangement with a touch of pop/rock feel is simply wonderful. this track’s sampler can be listened with the player above.

the tenth track “confession” is inspired by ludwig van beethoven’s symphony no. 5 in c minor, op. 67 with classical crossover in rock mood. i really love the violin’s part at the very end. the eleventh track “happy night,” inspired by wolfgang amadeus mozart’s serenade no. 13 for strings in g major, k52 “eine kleine nachtmusik”

the last track is the instrumental track of “ผู้ชายในสายฝน,” simply called “rain.” personally i like this track without vocal more. this album could be be better if they included all instrumental tracks as bonus. the music is supposed to be universal. it should not be bounded by languages.

miracle is another good classical crossover album. if you like “bond” or “vanessa mae,” i am pretty sure that you will enjoy this album as well. for more information, please visit their official site/blog.

now we have good classical crossover album, when will we have another good opera crossover like “rapsody’s overture“? we need more! …lastly, i hate digipak, please stop making them. merci.
