Dredd is a film based on the comic strip Judge Dredd and its eponymous character created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. The story is set in the future America, in a city so called “Mega City One”, where the only force of order is the Judges.
A Judge named “Dredd” is tasked by the chief to evaluate a rookie Judge, Anderson who possesses psychic power. Dredd and Anderson visit Peach Trees to resolve a murder case of three dead bodies which were injected with a new substance that slows the user’s perception of time to 1% of normal called “Slo-Mo”. They assault a drug den and arrest a man, who happens to be one of Ma-Ma’s henchmen.
Ma-Ma is the drug lord who controls Peach Trees. When she finds out, she decides to take the tower’s security control room and seal the entire exits. Ma-Ma sends order to terminate the Judges at all cost.
The script is brilliant, it was written Alex Garland, the man who wrote screenplay for 28 Days Later. Visual effects and cinematography are amazing. This is what 3D film should be, even the smoke looks incredible. The 3D water splash in slow-motion? Awesomeness. Highly recommended to watch in 3D.
